On our drive up to Mountain Lake the other day, my Mom told me to turn off Route 42 since I had never seen the covered bridge in Newport. It's absolutely pretty, and I think that it would make a great location for a wedding for any soon-to-be brides reading. My Mom, who is an avid bookworm, announced that it would be a perfect place to go and read a book. I have to agree.
The bridge is sometimes referred to as the Clover Hollow bridge since it
is off of Clover Hollow road. It was built in 1916 and it crosses
Sinking Creek. Fun fact - Sinking Creek is so named because the creek
goes underground before rising again before it flows into the New River.
I managed to muster my courage and walk onto the bridge which is saying something since I am moderately terrified of heights. I guess it is true (thankfully) that they don't build things like they used to since the bridge is still quite sturdy, and I did not end up falling into the creek.

Pre-Fall Celebration
Since it's almost impossible to get into Mabry Mill during the height of leaf season, I decided to declare a new season between summer and fall and head down the parkway.
Pre-fall is the perfect time of year. The summer heat has muted and, while it's still sandal weather, the humidity is actually bearable. School has started back and we can start planning for College Football Season! It is both peach AND apple season.
We ate lunch at the mill, and I had The Harvest which is three pecan pancakes topped with warm apple compote. Yum! On the way home, I stopped off at the local Mennonite bakery to get some fresh bread, jam, and (semi-healthy) no sugar added apple sauce cookies. I got laughed at because I took this picture of a cow, but I thought that she was pretty.
What are your plans for fall?
